INVESTMENT IN EXCELLENCE LEADING SELF

INTRODUCTION TO LEADING SELF [PHASE ONE]

EXERCISE:  Before/After Questionnaire

PURPOSE: To help stimulate personal reflection about themes that will emerge in IIE and give delegates a ‘before’ frame of reference to show how their thinking has shifted ‘after’ IIE and ‘later’.
Have the Questionnaires on the desks when people arrive and allow a few minutes for them to complete it.
It can be put away and ‘forgotten’ until after Phase 1.
See APPENDIX [A] for HANDOUT MASTER for copying purposes.

ABOUT IIE:
– A 6-day/9-week+/for-the-rest-of-your-life Process.
– Elements of the Process: Video content, exercises, discussion, personal reflection, etc.
– The PRM: Hand-out and cover the content in the Introduction to Phase 1:

  • Write name on 1st page. (Note that this is a PERSONAL Resource Manual) for “your eyes only!”
  • Introduce Lou Tice  p. ii
  • Validation of IIE: extensive research base, endorsements by people like
  • Gary Latham and Martin Seligman, etc.  p. v
  • Note that IIE is essentially an EDUCATIONAL intervention not      MOTIVATIONAL though the educational material will undoubtedly be  motivational anyway.
  • To help you position IIE, read through the “Enjoy the Journey” page.
  • Take time to draw attention to the 6 “golden threads” which are summarised at the end of the page. p. vi
  • Review Contents Page p. vii
  • Explain the Elements p. viii
  • Give a moment for people see how each Unit works.  This can be done by going through Unit 1 page by page just to illustrate the structure of every unit from now on.
  • Refer them to the Glossary and explain its usefulness for reference.

⋅ Optional for Reference: 6 Characteristics of Highly Efficacious People
See PPP
→ See Appendix [C]

EXERCISE:  ILLUSTRATION:  Research  By Tony Compolo (Sociologist)

OPTIONAL but highly recommended.
PURPOSE: To challenge people to (a) think about their own priorities and (b) approach the IIE process with a mind-set that is ready to take risks; have fun and laugh; think about what really matters in their lives.
→  See APPENDIX [D]

EXERCISE:  EXERCISE:  “THE MAZE” (aka THE VW BEETLE)

This exercise is ESSENTIAL. It is a reference point/metaphor throughout the process.
⋅ PURPOSE: To illustrate many IIE themes as per the Experiential Learning Cycle (ELC)
Refer to ELC: APPENDIX [E] to this Unit.
See PPP for Maze/VW
A FLIPCHART of the VW is important as a reference for later in the process to illustrate such things as Scotomas; LO/LO; Cognitive Dissonance; etc… (Remember these have not yet been covered.)
